Dear Brother John
I sit my self down to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and I hope this letter will find you all the same. I rote a letter to Father last Week but I am not sure that you have received it I am longing to get a letter from some of you I have not had one since I left the Regiment I sent out to the Regiment to day so if thaire is any letter thare for me I shall get it to night. I am detailed here to the Carrell whar they keep good may Horses to recuit the other day we had Eight Hundred but we have not so many now all the duity I have to do is stand guard a round the Carrell I have to stand once/in bout a week that is not very hard I should have to help them fead but I cannot do much at that John I am cooking some Beans to day. I should like to know whare you are to day
 
            I left the Corps Hospital Week last Saterday Saturday I left Albert Moulton well I have not had any pay since last May I am out of patinces wating for my pay I dont know how long I shall stay here I hope I shall stay here long enough to get my pay next pay day I may stay all winter and I may not if I am put in the Inflid Corps I suppose I shall be sent away befor winter but I can not tell how that will be it is a good plase here and we dont have much to do I it is a bout two miles from City Point/snug to the James River. John I hope this fall will wind up the fighting that is what good may thinks I heard heavy fireing last nigh to the front I have not hear any war news to day I think they will have a hard fight before long by what they say
 
            John when you write I want you to write a long letter and tell me all a bout the Corn and other thing you write and let me know if you received that box of Cotten that Chares Walker and I sent John when you write I want you to run the risk and send me ten Dollars I suppose you think that I could get a long with spending any money but I can not/very well write and let me know if you have got my watch I hope you have I will draw to a close hoping this letter will find you all well write as soon as you get this one good by
