                                                                        Cavalry Depot Near City Point Va Nov 11th
 
                                                                                                                        Dear Father
I sit my self down to answer you kind and gladly received letter wich I got to day it was writen on the 6th I was sorrow to hear that you are lame I hope this letter will find you well as it left me I wish you could let the mill to some good man so you would not have to wrork in it for I know you are not able to do it Father I had rather for you to hire two men to work in the mill then to have you to do it I want you to keep John with you when you have a plenty to do for you have work engn enough for two men all the time you can aforde to pay him more then you could any one else if he will take a interest in the/things and I think he would he can standed better to work at home then he can away I wish it was so I could get my Discharge and come home but I do not expect that can be but I hope I shall live to come home in about two years if not before and find you all well I shall know how to get along in a diferent way then I did before I shall know how to prize a home and kind friends but it may be all for the best that I came. any way some had to come but I supposed if I had had a mind to stay at home I could of
 
the Election is over and I suppose Abe is elected but I dont know as it makes much diferance with the Rebs all the way is I belive to quele them is starve them out and that is all the way/
 
I rote a letter the other day and I rote that you nead not send me any more money untill you heard from me. I heard some talk that they was gowing to send some away from here they have sent some sick ones away that was not able to do duity I have not heard any thing about sending me a way I had bout as lives stay here with out I could be sent in to the Invlid Corps
 
I want you to send me a paire of neat gloves and as soon as I can find out where I am a gowing to stop or not I should like to have a Box you can send the gloves by maile we had a chance to vote here you can write the same as ever if I should have to leave here I will let you know/
 
I am on guard to day it is almost night and I must close I hope this letter will find you all well
