Dear Sister Mary
I take my pen in hand to answer your kind letter that was written last Sunday it found me well and injoying good health and I hope this one will find you all the same tell Father he had better look out for the Rooster and not get hurt againe it rains quite hard here to day. I took a tramp out to the Front Yestrday I fount Charles Walker Banks and Grant all well and harty Charles Walker is Corpal Coporal. Captain Myrick is back to the Regiment I saw him and had some talk with him about my getting North he told me the only way was to try and get a fourlog home and then go to Augusta/and he thought I could get my Discharge that way. he told me to go the Doctor and tell him that he sent me to see if could not get me a fourlough I have not seede him yet. coming from the Front last night the cars meet with an two Accident the first one the Shackel brock as they was gowing down a grade the cars was gowing pretty fast the ones that brock away was coming full speet and the men begain to see the danger and before they struck the others Cars they jumped from them no one was hurt two cars was stove to peaces soon after another Shackel brock but they was gowing sloe I jumped from them I hurt my leg a very little. I begaine to think that we never should get to the Point but we got down at last. when we went out we went within about two miles of the Rebs Brest Works I/could see them very plain and see Petersburg.
 
I got a paper this morning from home I hope my Boots will come all safe Mary I dont think it is any use for Maj Rollins to try about getting me transvered. I shall see the Doctor before long I should have seed him to day but it is very Stormy here to day I shall try and get a fourlough I want to get my Boots first dont you send any Box untill I get my Boots
 
I have been waiting a long time thinking that I should get payed of but dont see any signs of it I would for Father to send me a little Monny I am out at presant I cant get a long without some Tobacco to Smock.
 
Mary I will write as soon as I see a bout get a fourlough/but I dont put much Confidence in getting one
 
Albert Moulton is in my Tent now and I am gowing to send this letter to the Office by him I got him three from the Reg yesterday he is well I am bout out of Postage Stamps
 
I will draw to a close hoping this letter will find you all well
 
give my love to all the Folks
