                                                                                    Petersburg Va.
                                                                                      May 14th 1865
 
                                    Dear Father
                                                            I take my pen in hand to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well. I come to my Regiment last Friday they sent for all the men that belonged to the Company the Regiment is in Camp Near the City. I found all the York Boys well George Hutchins did not come he was not very well when I left don’t see any porspect of the Regiment going home I do not know what they will do with me I cannot tell better after I have been here a while/
 
I sent my Great Coat and one Blanket to you put it in the Express office last Friday sent them by Adams Express you will have to go to Portsmouth to get them it is very warm here now I have no news to write this time I hope this letter will find you well and all the rest good by
