Brig. Genl. M. L. Smith having been assigned to this Division and the 8th Missouri Regt. transfered in the place of the 14th Wisconsin on detached service and in consequence of the reduced strength of Regiments the following changes are made in the Division to be carried into effect at once. Instead of 4 Brigades there will be 3 Brigades of 4 Regiments each—
1st Brigade Brig Genl. Morgan L. Smith Comdg
8th Missouri 55th Illinois 54 & 57 Ohio
2d Brigade Col. J A. McDowell Comdg
6th Iowa 46th Ohio 40 Illinois & 77th Ohio
3rd Brigade Col. R. P. Brickland Comdg
70 & 72nd Ohio 48 & 53d Ohio.
The Batteries and Cavalry will remain unattached as heretofore and will make reports direct to Head Quarters: but Major Taylor will habitually keep one Battery with each Brigade unless specially detached by general orders
The Regiments hereby changed in their Brigade organization will at once be conducted into line of their new Brigades, their commanders reporting to their new Brigadiers.
The officers commanding Brigades will forth/with acquaint themselves with the actual condition of their commands as to numbers arms ammunition transportation &c and any want will be supplied upon proper requisitions.
