kiled than here his Regiment disgrase them selves in that way and it want more than 3 minuets before he fell from his Horse and his men gave way fore the Inndia Tigers they are one of the best Regiments in service and one of General Corcorans Regiments falterd they were mostley Irish men and were from New York sittey when I came of the Battle/ field my Boots was Read with Blood where I had steped in to the pools of Blood O it was auful sickning to beholde the mangeled Bodies we had about 50 or 60 kiled and about 150 wounded there was a piece of a shel struck my boot but it had lost its forse so much that it dident hurt me much the Rebels left 55 of there dead and 43 wounded on the field/
there was about 50 ded Horses left on Battle field we were under arms from 4 00 in the morning until 2 the next morning and there was a great many of the men that dident eat or drink a mouthful in the time you have but little idear of the horrors of war at home nor the privations of the soldiers whilst on a march we had to go through a swamp where the watter was/ from 4 to 6 inches deap for 2 miles. do you hear from Jimmey often and how dos he get along, I had a letter from Jane last night she is getting quite smart and sais that she has the nisest Baby out as fat as a cub
