                                                                                                            Dear niece
I take this opportunity to inform you that I am well at present and I am hope that these few lines will find you same I received a few lines from you a few month or so ago and have delayed answering it until the present time and I have not much to write about
 
We have had seven weeks good sleighing here this winter and a fair prospect of a week or so more of good sleighing yet
 
the times is very hard here for grain is so low and goods and groceries sure so high
 
Wheat 60 cents corn 12 cents potatoes 50 cents calico 16 cents muslin from 15 to 20 cents Coffee 30 cents sugar 12 1/2 cents tea 150 cents butter 6 cents and every else in proportion there is one more thing that I must tell you about Mag has got a little girl it is two weeks old last Thursday I send my best respects to you and all inquiring friends no more at present
