                        Dear Sister
yours of the 23d received last eavning and I was glad to hear that you was well. I think that you must have a hard time all alone with both of your children to take care of and all of the other things to sea to I hope that Jimmey will have the good luck to come home some for you nead his company and health help both if you ever nead any of the girls it must/ be about this time I think. I was verry sory to hear that Billey had ben so foolish as to do as she has for it will shurley be the ruination of her and if she dosent repent I will loose my guess there has ben some fighting nere here since I wrote to you before our Cavilrey drove in the Rebels night befor last and took 5 prisoners we are under marching orders to leave here on monday we are going to to Petersburg if we can get there but we/ will have some hard fighting to do before we can get there as that is a strong plase I wish that Jimmey was with us but I am glad that he aint got to stay as long as I have got to for I can tell you that a soldirs life isent a very happy one. I got a letter from Jane this eavning she is as well as comon but complains a godeal about being lonesome and she thinks that it is rather hard for her to stay there and have her me gon but if she was in your plase I dont know what you she/ would do it dos me a goodeal of good to get a letter down here for it is rather lonesom times and dull living a soldiers life my helth is getting quite good and I am in hopes that it will son be as good as ever pleas write as often as you can and I will write if we have the good luck to get to Petersburg alive
