                                                                                                                        Dear Sister
as I have just received a letter from Jane saying that Rachel was there and as I thought perhaps that you hadent heard from her yet I thought that I would let you know where she is or at least where se was a short time ag I will write just as Jane wrote to me about her. just as I stopt writing last night some one knocked at the dore and what to my surprise should I se but Billey/ she said that she had walked all the way from Westfield I dont sea what in the world posessed her to come back here she he has got a new delane[?] dress and a nise plad one that cost 8 shilings per yard and a new Brosh Shall a [hole in paper] said that she had [hole in paper] to Coneoltville[?] I dont kow where she has ben nor dont know what to think about her I dont want her here for fear that Fred Terrel will come after her but if he comes here he will be sorry this just as Jane wrote about here/
 
I hope she has wrote to you before this time. we are having a fight about 10 miles from here the Canons farley make the windows rattle our men have taken 60 prisoners that they have sent in and 20 Horses our Regiment is to [hole in paper] at 8 00 this eavning and it onley wants 40 minets to that time so I will halfto close by biding you good night
