My Dear Cousin
                                    As i have writen several letters to you and have never received an answer, I will now try and get one to you being as we are at the present time in Monticello near your home. but at the same time, I know you would have answered my letters if you had received. I would have come out last night but as the Yanks are surposed to be comeing up this way and as our men are few I could not be spared, but i hope I will see you all soon. Cousin I have begun this letter but i am afraid that i will not be able to end it for they are geting ready to start. I would like to see you all very mutch. My Brother William is kno now a prisner in Ford Delaware Mr O. P. Jelks has been wounded but has recovered and has returned to his command. Cousin the Bugal has sounded. give my respects to all I remain ever your Cousin              J. Pl Jelks/
