Jennie E. Branyan
Jennie E. Branyan was born around November 1844 in Pennsylvania to Jane Branyan. Her father probably died sometime before 1850. She grew up and attended school in Penn, Pennsylvania, and by 1860, she was working as an apprentice “tailoress.” She moved to Roanoke, Indiana, in the early 1860s, and she married Jacob W. Hart on August 20, 1863. They had at least four children: William, born around 1866; Ella, born around 1871; Etta, born around 1874; and Ervin, born around 1882. They lived in Roanoke, and her husband worked as a carpenter. By 1870, they owned $1,000 of real estate and $200 of personal property. Her husband died on November 3, 1895. By 1900, she was living with her brother James and two of her children. She died of “heart trouble” in Roanoke on February 6, 1913.
