Elleys Ford Va Nov 29th 1863
Dear Wife
I seat my self by the Camp Fire to write a few lines to you. I am well as useual. I have not had a chance to write any be fore in a weak, for we have had to go nearly all of the time where ever the Waggon Train moves. our Brigade is detached to guard the Division Bagage Train. the mail has not come any farther than Alaxandria for more than a weak, nor has any gon out. we have been fighting four days to day. we do not go any faster/ than the waggons go, so you can see we ar not whear there is any danger, but it makes my blood run cold to hear the continual roar of Cannons and Muskets it has been one continual roar from eight in the morning till four in the Afternoon now for four days. to day is Sunday I suppose but all days ar allike to us I do not see any differance here aspecially when a fight is going off but how the fight will com out we do not know. the story is that we have taken three thousand Rebs and 7 pieces of Artillery I hope so at least. but dear Sarah the mail is going out in a few minutes and so I must end for this time hoping this will reach find you well and Bubby to. do not worry about me for we will be in a safe plase whether there is a fight or not. I will write as often as I can send a letter out, and you must write often to so good by for this time Dear Sarah take good cair of your self and Bubby to. tell Mr Smith I see Halbrt to day and he sayed his sun was taken to a doctors hous to be taken cair of by the Rebs, but/ he was shot through the Brain and did not live but five days. so good by for this time this is from your husband
