Camp near Cedre Mountain March 19th 1864
Dear Wife
I received your kind letter of the 13th it found me well and on guard I was glad to hear from you for I have not had a letter from you before in over a weak. I began to think no one caired enough about me to write any more, and so I maid the best of it I could. I am vary much pleased with the Likeneses. I never saw four taken to gather before that wer so true and natural as these ar. I did not expect to see you look so well and healthy. Sarah did not it do your face good to pull out those teath. pleas tell me next time you write. I thought long ago that if you would have those rotton teath out on the side that troubles you so, your face would get well
You wanted me to tell who all them ar in the likeneses. well the first one on the left is Bel Hepbern, the next one is my Old woman, the next is Mary Witter and the tother one Mandy King well I tell you if they ar not a darnd fat lot of Girles then I do not know a fat one from a poor one/ it makes me think of old times I tell you. and if I could only get hold of all four of you I would give you all such a kissing and shaking as you never had. well George King has left our Reg longe ago he was sick all of the time and so he was transferred in to the Invaled Corps. I should not be surprised if he went home yet. Ma wants me to send hur my likenes and so I am going up to day and have it taken and send it to hur. it is a warm day. it seams like Spring. I have just came in from hearing a man Preach in our streat he taked good I tell you. it is the first time I have heard any one preach since we came from Suffolk. O that I was at home to attend Shurch and prear meatings. but I must wait untill God sees fit to send me home. then I shall improve my time in surving God. but I must end for this time. take good cair of your self, and Luie, trust in God not in man, give my love to all at home, ans soon, remmember me as
