Camp near Cedre Mountain March 28th 1864
Dear Sarah
I received a kind letter from you last night. it found me well as useual, and I was glad to hear you say that your health is much better than it has been for a longe time. I thought by the looks of your pictir likeness that you looked a good deal fuller in the face. I am vary thankful and glad to know that you ar a going to be a healthy Woman, and if you get to be as healthy as I am then you will know what it is to enjoy good health, which is the greatest/ blessing any one can enjoy in this world except an interest in God, and every one can have that cumfort if they will only try. O that all wer Gods followers, I know our world be a much pleasanter world. I long for the time time to com when I will be liberated from this war so I can go home where you ar and where I can have the privallage of going in to Gods Sanctuary and listenning to the word of God. but untill tat time I must live and do the best I can. I went up yestarday on guard to on General Gibbses head quarters. I came back/ this mornning. there was a Reb Deserter came in and I had to take him down to Culpper and deliver him over to General Merrit. the 14th New York Zuaves ar on provo guard there. I tell you if they do not look foxey with theyr fire red pants on and red caps I see you put two stamps on your last letter. Sis can they not be sent unless there is two on them. I think they can. I would get small paper if it costs so much to send the large, for it costs a good deal any way for us to write but I do not cair, if I use my money that way it does not go any other, but it/ is best to send a letter for one stamp if it can be. I am vary thankful to you for sending these stamps. there was 14 three cent stamps and 5 two cent ones. I have sent you a large pictur to day it is our Company reckord they cost 12 Shillings, but mine did not cost me any thing for I went down to brandy station the other day and the Agent that got the pictus up told me if I would cairy them up to our Company he would give me one and so I have sent it to you and Luie.
but my thinking cap is all most epty, so I will not write any more this time. ans soon. give my love to all our folks. keep a good lot of it to your self and Luie write often and tell me all the nuse. I remain Your ever true Husband
