Camp of the 1st NYork Dragoons
near Culpepper April 25th 1864
 
Dear Mother
                        I received your fiew lines of the 20th in due time it found me well and fealling much better than I did when I wrote last, for we have got out of our old stinking Camp and ar now in a nice clean medow and good water. you can imagin the differance betwene a camp where there ar old dead horses in hot weather and a nice clean one. well you had the same idea I had about the Sheep You ask me what you shall do with my wool. well I want you to sell it when you do yours and take the money/ which you get for it and let hop have it and take his noat payable to me when called for
 
I was surprised to hear you say that you had so fiew Sheep after paying Edwin his. did Sheep die much last winter. but I well remember how you managed thing after Fathers Death, and I see you have not forgot how yet, so I do not worry about my Sheep any for I reckon I will have them by the time will get home to take cair of them. I am thakful to Father for taking such good cair of Old Tom. I believe him to be a good provider and manager if Old Tom had not of had good cair he would have been dead long ago. but I will end for this tim. ans soon.
