Dear brother
                        It is with pleasure I now attempt to answer your letter of the 8th inst which came to camp yesterday and found me sick a bed out looking for matches but could not find any I have not had very good health this summer I am botherd with sore eyes We have been having gay times here in this place We were paid of about 2 weeks ago some of the boys have spent from $150.00 to $300.00 in that time but I felt differently inclined I would have sent money home but we all expected to go soon and yet I think we will be home by the 1st of August and by the/ 1st of September anyway I went out into country one week ago yesterday with our ambulance and fetched in 70 dozen eggs paid 25 cts a dozen for them I was fetching them in for a mess of 5 of us I sold about 40 doz of them and we have not had eggs for two days now I am going again in the morning I am going to get vegetables if I can find them we can get potatoes for from 3 to $6.00 per bushel I will give 3 or $4. but I donot like to pay $6. The boys are quite healthy this summer down here We have plenty of ice cream here they make it and fetch it into camp for us 25 cts per dish We can get evry thing down here that we want I rather expect I will report north of Kendallville but I think not Officialy but circumstances alter cases you/ know I think the Old gipsie humbuged you some on my being home in this month as there is about 2500 miles between here and home and no prospect of starting to day I dont think I will get home this month I should like very well to be there to attend it with you There is to be a big trotting match here the 4th and 5th I have been having a very sore heel I not know whether I could wear a fine shoe or not the 4th but I guess I would Blackberries are about gone here now I was about 300 miles from Mobile when it was blown up I have not had any mail for some time from any place except your letter yours as ever write as soon as you get this
