June 17th 1862
Dear Mother
I thought I would set down & write you a few lines this afternoon it is so cool Last Sunday the regt went down to the city to holde funeral services in honor of our 2d Col; Col Drak whome I suppose you have heard is dead before this for he died in Conn I hear/ that the Manchester Cadets have gone to the war which I am very glad to hear & I hope George Parkhurst has gone for if he meanes to show his patrotism now is the time I can tell you one thing that the people of the north do not show the Patriotism that the southerners do for there caus they sackrifice evry thing & it is a going to be some time in my minde before I we shall be able to close this war I suppose we shall be making a moove against them some where before long I hope so at least/
Lousious Smith says that his mother wrote to him that you wanted I should write home what I wanted most I wrote home that I wanted some shirts &c but if you have not sent it why I will tell you of a few extrays to put such as som lemeons & sugar for lemon-aid goes good down in this hot climate.
You need not send any bread for we have just as good bread here evry day as you have to home I should like some of Atwoods Bitters & some of Ayers Pills to take once in a while for I am cositive some times & don’t have/ any appytite But if you have sent the box you need not minde for I can get some salts to the Doc if I should want it But I am in good health & hope I shall continue to be
There was one of our Corps went over to the 11th Conn Regt & he see a fellow there that wanted to know if there was a fellow in his company the name of Norton he told him there was & so he sent me his best respects & said that my Aunt in Plainville wanted him to finde me out & let her know where I was but I cant immagin who it can be for my part
But I must close write soon & let me know how you liked my picture & whether you got it or not
