                                                                                          Camp Stuart Oc 22th 1862
 
Dear wife I take a litle tiam again to let you now that I am well at presant and hope that [paper fold] you the same I got you kind leter last nite and was glad to hear from you John tents with me he is as home sick as ever but he is well and seams to stand it as well as any of us [?] houghton has had something rong with him but is beter now you can gess what it was you wanted to no what we had to eat wee have vary good bread have fresh beef 2 a week/ and bacon 2 a day and potatoes one A day wee have Samey Keley for our cook wee do not expect to stay hear but a feew days whare wee will go I dont know but we expect that wee will go to farfax wee went down to washington last Saturday for a revue wee martch about 20 miles and wee was a tired lot of boys when wee got back thare was about ten regments thare for revue at the same time when wee came back through the Sity I see som rebols in prison peaking through the grates and I see som 8 or 10 prisenors march by our camp yesterday that had just bin tacon thay wer/ A hard lot of felers thay had no yuniform and dirty and look rather hard wee was on drill at the time so that I did not get achance to go to the road to see them but see them at a short distens them that was close to them said that thay wer ofel ragad and look hard I try to ingoy my self as well as I can but I could injoy my self at home full as well as hear but wee dont expect to stay in this contry A grate while so ceep up good chear for I expect to meat you again be fore long if god is willing you must not expect me to rite mutch for you now how hard/ it is for me to rite and chance I have to rite rite to me as often as you can I am glad that you have got the frame up that the wind dont blo thare as hard thare as it did hear last nite it bloded the dust like snow in the winter so now I must stop at presant my love to all and agrate share to your self            good by

tell Saly that I have not had time to rite to her yet but will soon I thought that she could hear from you tell her not to wait for me to rite and I will rite to her in a few days
