Near Fredickburg
Dear wife I take this chance to rite A few lines to let you kow that I am well at presant and hope that this will find you all the same I recived A leter from you last nite Dated Nov 9 and A paper and that is all since wee left camp [?] it semes as thare must be som on the way yet I was glad to hear from you and hear that you was all well you said that the baby was getting so that she would be calling for her Pa I hope that when she dos I will be thare and that before long for it is a hard plase for me or aney body else wee have lived on harde/ tack for tow weaks and it is hard it has got about as mutch substance as A chip wee have som very good meat parte of the time wee get som fresh beef meat to day and som pork but wee have the hardes times when wee ar on the martch if we get intow winter qarters we will have beter times and if thay dont setel this war this winter I will give them the slip if thay give me aney chance thare is A grate maney sick thare was one did last nite in Co C from utica John is sick he cant eat aney thing without vomiting it rite up he wants you to let George or send word in som way to his wife that he is no betar yet and he will rite A/ gane in A few days you wanted to now what I thot of father it is rath hard for him to talk so but never mind go whare you want to and do as you ar A mind to injoy your self as well as you can and when I com home I will setel it for you if I could com home and eat one meal with you I would give all my old shoes but I have not enliste in the regulars and you nead not be afrade of that I have got anoff of Solger for once James remor is about 5 miles from hear but I cant get A pas to go and see him our ofesars ar so frade that we will/ run away thare was three of our company that left ous on our last march thay fell out becose thay cold not stand the martch and that was the last of them it was Henry Hart Jake Chisom George Willians as I was riting the mail came in and I got another leter from you and one from George yours was dated 14 Nov was glad to hear from you and that you was well I dont now but I will be well until this is al setel and thay give out but [paper fold] I hope that wee will not have the chance to have any batel and both get home safe and sound before long tell Pa that if I cant come and see his hog I hope that I will have the chance to eat parte of it and som of the soup [?] Gibson is quarter master Sargent and Orsen Wood drives team and would not do aney thing els I have rote this so fine that you will have to [paper fold] news to rite I will have to bring my leter to A close for my candol is getting short good nite my love to all and to all inquiring friends remanes your afectonate husband
