                                                                        Camp Near Fredricksburg Jan 29the 1863
 
Dear wife I take my pensal in hand to let you know that I am well at presant and hope that this will find you all the same I received A letar from ksoagl last night thay wer all well thay said that Ma was thare I was glad to hear from them but it seams quear that George nor William dont rites to me aney more I have not received aletar from them in or about tow months I roat to Joh Birnie about tow month agow and have not heard from them yet it is rather hard to be hear and not have my friends think anoff of me to rite once an A while I got tow mont pay last night so that I will send you twenty dolars it is an alotment check and you can get it cashed thare you will have to sine your name on the back and have som one to witness that you are the right person and I want you to rite back as soon as/ soon as you get this for I want to know whether you get it or not for thay say that if this gits lost I can get another for it is not good to aney one but you Cap Lambie is coming home on A leaf of absence for he is sick he expects his wife an John Lambie hear every day John Swanson is in the hospital yet and is not aney betar I got A letar for him last night thay had not directed it rite thare is not mutch to rite for I have just roat wee lay in our old camp yet wee have had quite A snow storm it has bin rather tuff for A few dayes to lay out in our sheltar tents now more at presant my love to you all and as meney as inquire from your loving husband
