Dear wife with plesure I sett down to answer this kind letar to let you know that I am very well except my eyes is weak yet I cant stand the sun nor candel light very well I was very sorey to hear that Ella was so bad off but hope she will be betar by this time I wroate A lettar to you last Monday and have not heard from it since but I did not have aney postage stampes and probley you have not received it you said James wroat me but I have not got his lettar yet I wished that I could get a furlough to com home and help you eat your Huckelberries but I will have to posteponde it for A short time but I hope not long we donte have aney thing extry to live on hear except tow small rations of whiskey one before brekfast an the other before supper I have not heard from John in som time this letar was sent to me/ from the Regment but no line with it to let me know whare thay are or what thay was about thare is not aney news to write this time so I will bring this to A close write soon I send my love to you all
