Dear Sister
I received yours Friday night and was glad to hear you wer well. yesterday was a vary dull day here with some rain but last night it cleard of and to day is vary fine and warm. Ben is quite sick this morning He was taken last night I hope He will be better soon and thay will send Him home for it is no comfort to me to have him sick here and I feel sure he will never be well as long as he stopes here. I wrote to Andrew yesterday the last one He sent me I never got ther is a great many letters lost coming here some way or other I am just fixing up a a doze of composetion for Ben I have just been to see/ Him and I am afraid He has got a fever it it is vary hard for him to be in a Tent and be sick I got a letter from Maria the other day stating She had been to have Photegraph taken and when She does get some she likes She will send some to me I will send you one. Give my love to Ben Preston when you see him and tell him I have received his letter and was happy to hear He was well and I will answer it soon. Give my love to Edward and tell him I think he had better try Mackereling next Summer for he would feel better and perhaps make as much. Is Martha Morgan to work in Beverly now. I do not hear any thing about Lewis at all but I think he is not married yet if he was I would heard of it/

I sent a paper to Father two days ago I hope he will get it. I got the paper you sent me and Maria sent me some so I got all the particulars about the fire it was a sad afair for so many to be turnd out of there homes in such cold weather I want you to send me 50 worth of stamps a few at a time for I have none atall I like cooking vary well and wish I could have a little more to cook we have a plenty of soft bread come from Washington every day and meet of some kind twice a day coffee morning and night. besides we get beans peas dried apples and rice so I do not know as we can complain yet there is some things we have at/ home home we do not get here but the food is better then I expected by far. I have turned in my horse equipments and do not have much to do with horses now our company is on picket to day they will come of this afternoon we arrested a fellow in Camp as a Spy and put him in the guard house he will be tried soon. There is a lot of boxes came to day and I going to see if mine is come I have just got a box from home every thing was good but the pies it had the letter from Andrew in it John Boynton had a box come to day there is seven of our men put in the guard house for runing from there post last night it was right for/

[front margin] for if they had no more courage then that they had not ought to go to war Ben is sick as ever and I think he will have a fever
