Camp at fair Oak Thirsday June 25th 1862
Dear Father
I thought i would pen you a few lines to let you that i am well yesterday fournoon we had a little brush hookars division went out in the woods to attack the rabails and witch we went out to and form in a line of battle in witch we went though the and come out in a open and the first thing we know we had a voley of musket paird in to us in witch it drop a few of our men in our regment and then we ware orderd to lay down we did so with a constant of voles of mustry pouring over us we laid we laid down in that plase abought fifteen minutes then we got up and advance a short distance and than thay fired in to us again and then we had the order to fire in witch we fired a voley and and/ loaded and fired again in witch the rabails left and then we ware orderd to cease firing in witch we did the ninteen lost forty six kiled and wounded in witch our second lutunant was kiled almost instanely his was lutunant George Warner of south danvers and we had two private wounded in our Company John C was not in the fight for the 29 Mass reg did not go out John came over to our regiment as soon as we got back from the fight to see if i was hurt the shots came pretty ny me the man that was in the frunt ahead of me had his gun struck by a ball in witch it glanse of the gun and gust past by my head thair was a number of balls gust went clear of me thair was a number of our had thair all stove to peaces shots thay are paying of our regment o Company comes next good by from Frederic please write soon
