                                                                                                            September 1st 1862
 
Dear Sister
I recive your letter yeasterday and was glade to hear from home i have had my leg taken two three why i did not let you know before was because i thought you would worry so ma mutch abought me and S Lat father would worred to l death so i did not tel let the folkes for all the folkes would worred so mutch abought me i should not let you knowed yet if i wasting i but i have get got so that i set up on my bed abought all day i will tell now all the bought my wound was wound in the seve seven days fight. went though six day of it/ and was wonded on the seven day gest at sundown. than as soon as i was struck i fell and soppose laid a minut or two before i could get up as soon as i got hop a little ways met one of the Company and one that came from the plase that i was wound to help me of thay took me in a blanket and carid me out to a farm house that was call nelson farm i was thair two days before i had my leg taken of we had nothing to lay only our blanket i laid on one half of it and had the other half over me i stop abought a week and i was carid to richmond and was ex exchange fetch and was came hear the 24 of July i have had my leg amptated it was four weeks last surday semes ony let had four weeks ago/
 
i had my leg taken the last time four weeks ago last surtaday and i am getting along nicely we had our ration alloud out to us at Richmond it was mostly bread we had a loaf of bread fol o three miles thay ware not as large a loves as we by of Our Baker we fare well hear the folkes that lived round hear bring Chicking Apple and tel All kind of frut acrost the river abought two miles the fo bring a good of frut in the Hosptail thair is plenty of peaches hear thair is every thing to sell on the il iland. you wanted to know if i k what become of Charles and Alley Androws i do not know i have not seen/ them sence the battle Sam Allen and John Sall
Is the last one that i should thought would thought would enlisted for the war Sam Allen was after the money
