Manchester July 25th 64
Dear John i got your letter day before yesterday with ten Dollars in it wich i have given to haywood Whe are all in good health at home Mariah has not come from the Island yet the last whe heard from her she was about the same whe have ben looking for her all last week but i suppose she will come as soon as well anough Augoustes says he has got your money a part in Trasurey Nots and a part in Banks in Boston Whe had a letter from George H last week he was in good health but had a hard time of it with the Reb i expect he is chasing them now whe had a letter from Samuel in the gut they fite out ther i see by the papers that the estabishment is burnt out sence thay fitted out ther some of the mackerel cachers are i coming home from the bay with good fairs; Frederick is to work on his own hook now Sarah has not ben at home for 5 weeks but whe here from her every few days she was a goin to the Island to see Mariah a Saterday but whe have not herd weather she went or not
There will soon be a Draft here/ thay are enlisting men here for 100 Days and got 3 Companys in Glouscester and some in Manchester there has not ben any rain here for 6 weeks and every thing is dryd up but to day seams dull and rainy but i dont know weather it will doo much good i got 2 Qts of Rasberrys this fornoon and i wish you had them they are worth 20 Cts a Qt here the Pastures has ben all dryd up but it looks as though whe should have a plenty of rain this afternoon. Mary E has got smart and your Mother has come home thay are proud of ther Girl Augustous is a fiting Mr Curtous hous at Middleton he is taken off the roof and is agoin to fit it up in stile he was at home yesterday. whe have just herd that Mariah is very sick on the Island and tis a storm so that noboddy cant get ther to her i dont think the salt water agrees with her wages is verry high Capter Carpenders get 350 a day in Glouscester and provisions has rise one half sence you left home
Mr J H Dow formerly is in good health our folks see them often your Unkle John will sail tomorrow for New Orleans with Ice and Hay the g dog is first Rate so I have nothing more to write to Remain your Effectionate
