Maria Leary to Juliet Andrews, 31 August 1864
Worcester Aug 31st 1864
Dear Julia.
I was very happy to receive a letter from you last eve also to hear that you were all well. but I was surprised to hear that you had not received any letter from me as I sent one to you the seccond day after I came home. I do not see why you did not get it for it was directed right I am sure. I had a letter from Geo=Henry Sunday. he wrote he was quite miserable but he hoped to be better soon. I hope he will be but I fear they do not have much care out there where there are so many sick some of them must be neglected he only wrote a few lines. how is John? well I hope./
how is Mr Dow getting along? give my love to Mrs. Dow and to Mrs Lee tell Georgie I should like to see him tell him he must be a very good boy and take his spoon and knife in his right hand. give my love and a kiss to georgie and Etta and my love to all the family I was rather lonely when I first came home but am getting used to it now. I am as well as when I came home I feel just about as I did then. I presume I shall get along nicely now I am careful as can be. we are having fine cool weather now. I should like to see you all. how does Fred manage to pass his time now he has not me to torment? I suppose he has to go in and have a smoke with Mrs Stone once in a while give my love to Sarah. tell her/ I will write to her just as soon as I can find any time. I have been very busy ever since I came home. I hope you will write when convenient how is Mr Andrews now? I am writing in haste so Mr Nelson can take this to the office and must close now for he is ready to go now so good by.
from your affectionate
Friend Maria Leary
