            Dear Sarah.
it is now some time since I received your letter but I will try now to answer it. I was very glad to hear from you and to hear that you were well I knew you were busy or you would have written before. I think it will do you good to stay out of the shop this winter. you have been confined there so long a time and so steadily too. I am glad to hear your Father and Mother are well give my love to them I am sorry that Freds health is not better yet. poor Julia. I think of her and her little ones very often She must feel very sad and lonely this winter. I should like to see you all very much. I received a letter from george last week Thursday I answered it Sunday. he was at Harpers Ferry. I sent mine there but Julia wrote to me that he was in Baltimore. so I suppose he will not get it. I should like to know where my letters go for he does not receive more than one out of three that I send him. in his last letter he wrote that he was a great deal better. he seemed to be in very good spirits and wrote a very cheerful letter. I too wish that he could come home on a furlough this winter. then he would get well right away I know. but I expect he thinks he should be so home-sick when he went back to the Regt that he almost dreads to come home for that reason, but I hope he will come./

Harry has been sick with the chicken-pox but he is nearly well now these two children seem to have all such diseases. but I had rather they would have them now than when they are older. I am very well and hope you are the same. please give my love to Julia and tell her I will answer her letter soon please give my love to all your family. I hope to hear from you again soon. give my regards to Mrs Lee and Andrew with much love I will bid you good bye.

                                    Affectionately yours
                                                Maria Leary
