Gt Barrington  Feb 3d  1863

Dear Brother
Yours came bearing Nov 2d and I was glad to hear you were enjoying yourself so well but was somewhat disapointed in not seeing you down here I have wondered why you did not write before but then I thought you wished to surprise me and so I made calculations to meet you at the depot but no Albert came so I gave up seeing you I am here in the store yet I cannot make up my mind whether I had better stay this summer or not I suppose I can stay but whether I will do as well as I would farming or not they want me to stay which would you do

Uncle Guys folks are well I believe I have not been out in two weeks Mattie went to NY 3 weeks next Sat and has not returned yet Geo is attending school down here now and he and I are fast friends I tell you Albert this is the greatest place for girls you ever saw I am out about three nights in a week and such times you never saw I am almost ashamed of it myself by the way Albert I am getting my name/ up playing the violin and have about all I can attend to I played over to the Berkshire House a few nights ago I borrowed a violin of my neighbor and a very good one too I play with a guitar piano flute and banjo and it sounds very well I attended a surprise party the other night and such times as we had a time I tell you I got a little whore hitched onto me and I could not get rid of her until I you know what the other night one of the clerks of the next store and myself with a couple of girls sat up with a corpse and what a time we had you may tell Milts I will let him know next week whether I will work for him or not I had much rather than to be in this business and now I will close for they begin to pour in and you must write soon and all the news tell Warren I wish he would answer that letter and Milts too

                                                from your Brother
