W. W. Halley to Gilman Marston, 12 November 1863
Hammond Gen’l
Hospital, Ward 15,
Point Lookout N. C.
Nov 12th 1863.
Gen’l Marston—
Sir: I
desire to learn from you if the privilege of taking the oath of allegiance to the US Government, as defined in President Lincoln’s late proclamation, would be extended to me.
I am anxious to return to my friends in the North and an early answer will much oblige.
Yours Truly
W.W. Halley.
