Sir.
On July 4th, 1863, in compliance with Regiment orders from Regt Hd Qrs. I turned over surplus Ordnance and Ordnance Stores for which I am accountable to Maj. Brady Actg. Ord. Off. 14th Div. 13th A.C. Being under marching orders no Invoices or Receipts were given but I received a memorandum receipt of which the following is a copy.
“Memorandum. List of Ordnance and Ordnance Stores turned over by Capt. Widaman, 8th Ind. Inf. to Maj. Brady Ord. Off. 14th Div. 13th A.C. at Vicksburg Miss, July 4th 1863. without Invoices— (signed) George W. Dubois
17 Springfield Rifles Actg. Ord. Sergt.
2 Enfield Rifles 14th Div. 13th A.C.”
7 Sets accoutrements
on making out Invoices and Receipts for the above, the Ordnance Officer refuses to sign, Stating in general terms that no receipts can be given for accoutrements.
How shall I account for those accoutrements on my next quarterly return? Jacob Widaman
