William Farnham Day
William Farnham Day was born on November 11, 1821, in West Springfield, Massachusetts, to David Day. The family moved to Franklin Mills (present-day Kent), Ohio, when he was a child. He received a license to preach in 1845, and he earned a living as a minister. An early biographer described him as a “an of deep learning, a thorough master of Greek, a devoted student of history and a great lover of scientific research.”

He married Ann Delia Grover on May 19, 1847, and they had at least two children: Harriet, born around 1848; and Wilson, born around 1850. In 1860, they were living in Cleveland, Ohio. By 1870, they were living in Akron, Ohio, and they owned $2,000 of personal property. He died of Bright’s disease in Titusville, Pennsylvania, on October 23, 1882.
