Samuel F. Du Pont to Alfred G. Gray, 21 February 1862
[?] Port Royal
Feby. 21. 62
My Dear Captain
I sent word to the General we could not embark the Marines to day, on consequence of a North Easter having set in.
Thinking you would like to know this I dispatched this word—If we do not get out tomorrow, please drop on board after the Salute or before as you please.
We shall fire at Meridian and have directed the vessels of the squadron / to [?] in [?] their howitzers.
I think it is not a bad place to show our remembrance of the anniversary
Respt & truly
Yours
S F Du[?]
Captain Gray
Cmd. U.S.S. McClellan
Port Royal.
