March 31st 1862
Dear Aunt
I Received yours of the 25th in due time which gave me great satisfaction to hear that you were all able to be about. we had heard that you were nearly all sick Sam has been very sick for the last week with Diarrhea he is able to up and about to-day I hope he will be well in a few days Robt has left us I heard from him yesterday he is well pleased with his situation they are on the coast not far from Mount Plesent geting timber for steam boats they expect to be gone a month or more he can come over here on Saturday nights or Sundays I wrote to you the day before I got your letter I got very uneasy to hear from home as none of us / had got a letter for more than two weeks my health is as good as it has been for several years I am clear of pains I am still troubled with sick headache the health of our Regt is very good at this time they are only four of our company on the sick list two of them in the hospittal I hear no talk of our Regt leaving here now it seems that we are stationed here for the war I am afraid that it will be sickly next summer we are better fixed now than we have been since we came on the Island our mess has a good house and kitchin we fair tolerble well in the way of provition we get nothing to waist we have been buying molasses but they have got up to $1.50cts per gallon Sugar twenty cents / a lb black peper $1.25cts per lb and every thing in prportion we had our old friend Hugh Wilson with us two days last week he thinks he has invented a plan to blow up the blockade I am afraid it will be a failure if he undertakes it I mut come to a close it is now time for dress perade you must all write as often as you can we think they are somthing wrong if we do not get a letter every eight or ten days
