                                                                                                Piqua Miami County Ohio
9 Oclock. tuesday night. March 20th 1866

                                                                        Dear Webb
I have just answered a letter which I received from Cousin Lide on yesterday evening and so I thought I would write a few lines to Webb.

Well how fares your own Dear self this stormy night snugly ensconced in bed no doubt and dreaming of moonshine & mush & milk

Well I believe I told you you in any other letter that I received your welcome missive was happy to hear from you &c

So now I am at a loss to know what to write (Oh ye shades of departed eloquence inspire me with words suitable and Idea’s immemorable)

Indeed Webb I do not know what I commenced writing for for most assuredly I have not any thing to tell you. Well yes John was in to Church on sunday and went to Lides for dinner Father and Mother were at Lides yesterday. John and they went to town dont you think and left poor me at home / and all alone. “too bad” I have not saw Lide or have not been to town or not even as far as our big gate “since you was here. aint I a good girl I told you I was going to stay at home so you see I have been as good as my word. it has been raining every day since you left here only saturday and sunday, so we have nothing but rain and mud—mud and rain on sunday we had a couple of gentlemen to see us and spent part of the day. Namely Mr. John Winans & Mr. George Millhouse

Oh dear ever so good and funny was no name for him.

And yes Webster you said in your last that you did not know when you would come up again Well I know you will come by Saturday week wont you for it is so muddy now that I suppose you could not get here if you would try but come by Easter and I will cook you an egg wont that be nice

Well I shall now close as it is getting late and you know I never stay up / later than 10 Oclock
                                    perty perty

Webb hoping to hear from you as soon as convenient I shall bid you an affectionate good night and close my scribbling
