Dear Friend I received your letter of the the 24 and was happy to learn that you had not forgotten me for I thought you had as I had writen so often and received no answer you wished to know how I spent the fourth I spent it in Ashland Tenn and nice time untill the afternoon and then we had to fight for thirty minutes but that was soon over and then we danced untill evening when we came to came to camp and found the officers all on a drunk
Well Mollie I would like to have some of your Appel butter but as the south is between us and Ohio it is out of the question
tell Lide that I will write her as soon as I write a note to her on this letter if you have no objection /
Well Mollie you can tell John and your pa that the Rebels are not sutch cowards as I thought they was for they fight like hell hound useing the words of Col Mason excuse me for the rude comparison we have whiped them twice and got whiped once and that was at pitsburglanding
