Friend William I will try to improve the present opportunity of informing you of my health which is good at the present time and I hope this will find you in the enjoyment of the same blessing we have a great deal of scouting to do and picket besides fatigue duty on the fort our Company is ordered to Knoxville day after to morrow for some duty I do not yet know—well I am glad of it for my part for we have done a good deal of scouting in the eastern part of this state /

I suppose you are having fine times for I understand you have not got any horses I received a letter from Em yesterday they were getting along rather slow at home which makes me sad at times but I will mount my horse and sling my Spencer and ride into the country and drive dull care away it is very warm weather here now and tis almost harvest time and it makes me think of old Greenbush and the many happy hours I have spent about this time of the year in that place but times have changed sadly and so have we but we must look for better times when this cursed war is over I have no inclination to go home until every damned reb bites the dust I cannot think of much to write so I will close for this time please write soon tell the boys of my acquaintance I am all right and would like to hear from them
