Dear Father Mother Brothers and Sisters I seat myself for the purpose of droping a few lines in awnser to yours which cam to hand last saturday languag is inaduquat to depicked the sensations which I felt when I herd from home I was more than glad to hear that you all wer well and am glad that I can still say the sam of myself I have just laid my testament down for the purpose of wrighting you this letter I have nothing of importance to tell you your box of eatables cam to hand at as good a time as you could have sent them tell Clinton and Sandy that I was verry glad to recieve something from them to assure me that they still bore my name in thare memory tell maugh to not be troubled about me for thar is so many in my situation I think from the news from evry quarter that I volenteered at the right time I hope by the help of God to return home safe I desire your prares fore a safe campaign I want you to have my knife made and bring it down as soon as posible I wrote to you to not have it made but that was my error wee have a army of about twoo thousand men at this place wee have gon to work at our cabins it is thought that they can bee compleeted in / twoo week at the fatheres when wee get our hous up wee can sorter begin to liv sorter like hom som of the boys are very well suited down hear but I had rather be at home if this fuss could bee settled any other way I would like to hear how the draw went in montgomery very well tell Uncle Highsmiths folks that Colman is hear and that he looks as well as he ever did the negros is at work at the fortifications but thars no telling when they will be completed it is getting late and I must quit for to knight I hav just eat my diner and com to finish I have bin in the wood cuting logs It is snowing good fashon I want you to come down soon and bring my old shoos and a vest of som sort and dont forget my knife I have wrot a plenty for this time so I will quit for the presant Remaining Yours
