Dear Father                                                                             December the 8th 1862
                        I now seate my self for the purpose of letting you know that I am in good health and hope that those few lines may finde you all enjoying the same blessing I am with the Regement now I found they boys six miles east of abbavill at the mouth of [?] I went to see Colman Highsmith and Dick Jones they wer very well and look like them selves yet well when I found the boys they had koocked two days rashions and was redy for a march m well one monday the first of December wee all started after seting up all knight in the rain without any tents wee started on our march which lasted tell last knight seven days and in that time wee marched about one hundred miles to Grenader our position is about tenn miles east of that place at Grase Port I receaved your letter of the sixteennth day before yesterday I was glad to hear from you all and to hear that you all wer well I rote to you before I lef Murfresborough but dont expect you got it I stid staid thare about a week before I left I foud Hennton and border to bee / perfect gentlemen While I was in murfresborough captan Tiles sent two men with orders to arrest me and wilson as deserter from his camp you can tell Mr Tiles ef you see him that I would be glad ef he would stop that circulation ef he pleases wee started from that place in the morning and traveled all most knight and day untill wee got through our trip I like to ride on the cares very well I rode on them a long ways and I am a long ways from hom but I hope the time will come when I ware will stop then I intend to come hom and stay thare ef I get through wee have had sevrall small battles sence I have bin with this army but thare hase not bin a ginral engagement yet this is all the paper that I can get so I shal have to quit so give my love to ma and all my Brother & sisters and receive a full share yourself give my respects to all the tennsee girls
