Dear Father Mother Brothers and sisters I agane seate myself to wright you a few lines this evning to let you know that I am tolerable well at presant hoping that those few lines may find you all enjoying the very best of health I received your letter of January the fourth Febuary the fourth I had an oppertunity of awnswering it on march the eleventh by T W Bunting of this company Fearing that you would not get that letter I concluded that I would wright again by Wiliam Grant of the Forty Ninth who starts For Tennessee to morrow I have nothin of importance to wright to you this time I believe wee have had quite an unfriendly visit of the yanks uppon this place since I wrote before but they did but little harme they attacked this place on the fifteent by water wee had the heviest navle engagment on the knight of fifteent that has bin fought during the ware which resulted in the defeate of the yanks they succeeded in getting one of thare boats past this place the second one that made the attempt to pas met her Fate by hot balls thrown through her by our batterys she took Fire at one oclock the crew surrenderd immediately and was brought to shore the vessel was then left to her Fate she Floted on down the Missippi and at day break the Fire caught the magaseen and then she blew up they did us a verry little harme they killed sevorale of our men they are begining to shell us agane which will cause me to bring my letter to a close you must excuse this badly writen letter wright soon and give me all the news so no more
