Dear Father
I was very mutch surprised by recieving of a box of clothing from you before recieving an awnser to the letters that I rote to you after my arrival at this place I was treated with greate kindness by my captors on the field wee have good Barracks with stoves and plenty of coal to burn when that I was captured I was without a blanket and barfooted I have drawn one blanket sence the clothing that you have furnished come in time to save me from a spell of sickness perhaps the wether hear has bin colder then I ever seen I am in fine health and still improving I have st recieved your letter of the 13th sence that I commenced to wright with a receat for $10 dolars which I stood very mutch in need of I will wright often and you must do the same Colman Highsmith was well and with the command when wee wer on the Ridge Ed Rose is hear Charlse N. Gardner is hear and says to let his Father know that he kneeds his assistance Thomas Gardner Son For the presant I must close

and recieve a good portion to yourself
