                                                                                                            Hartford Oct. 30th

Dear Parents,
Knowing you would expect one more letter from me before, before we left Hartford, I this evening found a little spare time and decided to write to you in regard to the health, and fine spirits in the hope of going off tomorrow morning I suppose before this reaches you; you will have learned by the papers of our move and whereabouts. We have been very busy all day, overcoats, fatigue coats, knapsacks, Haversacks, Belts, in fact everything except muskets, and have orders to pack our knapsacks, and be ready to start to morrow noon. And I believe none are sorry. In fact all seem very happy. /
We are to go to Annapolis, Maryland

I have no more time to write to night, but will write to you as soon as we are stopped in any place. I believe we are to go by boat but dont know.

                                                                        Until then I remain
                                                                                    Your son
                                                                                                W. L. Savage

My carpet bag will probably go by express to
Greenwich, here is my vest in tatters.
