My Dear Farther & Mother
I take the oppertunity to inform you Farther and Mother at doh home that I am in the Hospital at Yorktown But I am a getting along Fine this morning. I inform you Farther and Mother of my complaints and sickness that I had it was the Typhoyed and Pilliards Fever together the Doct said that I had to be promptly in takeing my medecine and take good care of my self and so I did as long as I knew anything of myself. But I was arranged for a few days. O Farther and Mother I had A splendid Doct his name is J. Peck of Penn and I thank the Lord that I met with him so far from home. home, sweet, home Receive me dear / Savior in Glory my Home and so I inform you that I wasnt well since the 28th of May But I was recoverd again till the 18 of June and then on that day we left suffolk va and went to Norfolk on the cars and at Norfolk we took the Boat and left for yorktown that night we went about 2 hours and then we run on a sand Bark got Fast and then we layed till next day at 9 Oclock we got of that was on the 19 of June and our camp was laying on deck of the Boat and it was raining putty near all day we arrived at Yorktown Landing at 3 Oclock the same day and then we Marched about one mile on the other side of Yorktown and struck our tents it was night till we got done and then I layed down on the Bear Ground and I commenced to Feel / Chilly and till morning I had the fever well then I reported to Doct Smith he belongs to our Regt well he came to see me and said that I should sent to his Hospital he would sent me a physic and some Powders and then when he seen that I was getting Low he sent me to that Hospital in a ambulence wagon to yorktown I am glad of it this day that he sent me in the Hospital because I should of died in camp on that damp Ground and so I had a good Bed and a nice room to lay in But the vituals are poor in the morning we get Bread and coffee and at dinner we get tea and Bread and a little Potato soup and in the evening coffee and Bread only one small slice of that and so you may think my Dear Farther and Mother if we ever do recover Putty Fast why it takes Putty long to get strength enough to carry a nap sack But I will stay in the Hospital till our Regt will come back from the White House 80 men / come Back last night and they said that our Regt would be back in 2 days they went around another rout we exspect to leave Yorktown on the 13 or 14 of July for Pennsylvania in fact I say that I was tired of soldier life yet as long as I had good Health But beings I got sick it is not very comfortable that is so But as I was drafted for soldier for united states service I thought I would do my duty like a soldier and not like a coward. and so I must come to a Close By hoping that this letter may find you all well doh home and I will sent my best respect to you all for this time and by hoping to see you soon My Dear parents. Your sincere and dutifull Son T. Y. in this Bloody war.
also I sent my best love to My Dear Aunt Polly and the same to my Dearest only Sister and Brothers and in Particular I say Dear Nephew I will sent him one sheet of Reading that I want him to remember it as long as he lives
