Dear Sister
hear I am again I suppose you see I reckon it is a right smart time since I hered from you I cannot make out what is the reson why I do not hear from you can it be that you do not write no that cannot be the letters must be way laid somewhare. it is the only injoyment that a Soldier has is the letters that he gets from some beloved friend or Sister & Brother hear we are all the live long day in camp cannot go more than two miles without being stoped by a gard or picket / but then I sometimes am a picket and I respect them as they would me. I supose you think a Soldiers life is a lazzy one if you do let me tell you that you are misstaken for we are doing something all the time we have our horses to clean and ourselfs our tents &c and thare is the drilling just as heard work as I ever done.
Dear Sister we are again under marching orders I think we are going to the front to help our Brothers gon before some of us perhaps never to return. Nevertheless them that do return from thare will return for good Our company has not lost a man yet while other companyes / have lost from 10 to 15 since we have been in Kentucky how it is that Co I is so luckey I don’t know.
Augusta I have sent you my likeness in a case I wish you will get it thare is some Kentuckey look about it with that hat on it is not a Cavalry hat but I think we will get som like it Now I will close with the hopes of hearing from you soon Give my best respects to Ames Weed and tel him I would be very happy to ecknowlege the resept of a few lines from him my love to all from your cincere Brother
