                                                                                    Camp at White River Landing
                                                                                                August 4th/64.
 
Dear Sister
                        Having now a good opertunity to write a few lines to you and we expect to leave here in the morning or soon We are under marching orders where we are goaing we dont know aney thing about. the talk is we are goaing down the river I have not had aney letter from Em. since I recived your last letter I have had two since come back from home. I gues she felt some what bad when she got my first letter and sur / prised she said when she recived my likeness she said she thought I was not goaing to send her mine because the rest of them got thers so long before she did. she thought there would not have ben much love lost if I had not sent it what she ment by it I cant make out. The last letter I wrote to her I came down to the merits of the cause and told her what was what I told her if she wished to keep open corespondance with me she would halft to stop in other directions.
 
But I think I have writen enough of this stuf for once I suppose you will think / that I am having a great deale of trouble in my love arangements but it dont trouble me aney at all I think I know about how the thing stands. I shall show her whare she has done wrong.
 
                                                We are haveing gay liveing now I will tell you what we had to day. this morning we had fried bacon coffee and hard tack for dinner boilt Bacon and beans and hard tack for supper tea and Hard tack to morrow we will Bean soup for a change I think by the discription you can form some idea of armey life how I wish I could just step in for my breckfeast how I would make / you shell her out. I think you would wish me off as quick as I came I have writen a letter to Lif Dorning I gues I have streightend that affare with her I am sorrey it hapend for I think her a good girl. But it is getting late and I dont know as you will be able to read this for I am in a hurey so you must exkuse this and write as soon as convieniant I hope this may find you all as well as it leaves me my love to all at home.
