Dear Father
I now take my pen in hand to answer your kind and welcome letter I recived yesterday while on guard I was very glad to here from you that you were all well enjoying good health yours foun me the same. It was good news to here of you getting that money all right I had long given up as lost I never expected it would be found I began to get a little discouraged about sending money home there is so much monney lost on the way home sent by the Soldiers. We have ben payd off at last we got four / months pay and fifty dollars of Goverment bounty I got 18tn per month this time Soldiers pay has ben raised to 16tn per month which is some better for them I owd some this pay day and I dont think I will send much more than the bounty comes to. There is one thing I would say that is not to place to much confidance in the man that has our monney but I presume you know best Weed is not very satesfide with his arangements the way Ames writes about it Theadore got a letter from Ames he was in Ohio and was taken with the small pox and was very sick was taken while on his way home. I got a letter from Augusta with yours have not had aney letter from William in a long time it must be they are on a move of late / He promised he would send me his picture. Are you goaing to send me yours and Mothers I would very much like to have them. It was fun for to here of those drafted out of Ganges I think they could not have picke out aney that would pleased me aney better to here of beaing drafted regular home suckers blowheads. But you folks all in Mich seem to think a deal of Little MClelan well it is diferant in the Armey this Regt is in for Abreham Linclon. the Soldiers all that I have herd say aney about it say Old Abe has caried it on so far let him carrey it out. What is the youse in the North crying peace all the time when they know on what terms Jeff said he would except peace. So the way is for all hands to joine in with a will till they cry covey show / them that we can fetch them to terms So maney diffreant maney parties in the North is what keeps it up. There will be a day of retribution then Coperheads hunt your holes when the Soldiers all return home they had better be in hell then remain in this Nation All What I look at is the men and platform that nominated Little Mc. that will satesfy aney one if his heart is for his Country and if he takes the matter well into concideration The most of our men are Douglas Democrats but they are in for old Abe and are goaing to vote for him There are a few exceptions among them home sick purpies I call them. But I must stop for the want of room and something to write You must exkuse mistakes for the shanty is full of men playing cards and C. to pass of the time which makes it a little bothersome to write I thank you very kindly for the stamps you sent me I think I will send a little money in this letter of it dont make it to large from your ever affectionate Son
