Dear Parents,
Being on guard now I havent much time to write, but will just write a few lines to send along with my money. Col. Thomas has decided to go home this afternoon, and that is is another reason why I can’t write much. We are pretty well now I expected last night & when I went on guard that I should be sick to day for I did’nt feel very well and had not done any duty before this week. but I dont know as I feel a great deal worse. When I went on I put a plenty of clothes. I believe I shall send twenty five dollars in treasury notes. We got orders this morning to mend our clothes if we had any we wanted to, and be all ready to / move any minute. Yesterday we had a brigade drill, and practiced firing with blank cartridges. we had a fine smell of powder, and a plenty of noise I have’nt any more time write so I’ll close this.
Your aff son W. L. Savage.
