Camp near Centerville Va
                                                                        Nov 13th 1861
 
My Dear Ellen We have just moved to a new place the whole army is now camped in a line of Battle around and behind the breast works and entrenchments at Centerville we are near the left of the line it looks like we are prepareing for an attact but I dont know wheather there is any new indications or not I heard last night that the Yankees were advancing from Alexandria on toward us and had got as far as Fairfax C.H. a distance of eight miles from us I dont know what the result will be you must watch the Telegraphic dispatches We belong to the 5th Brigade commanded by Brig Genl Wilcox  and in Genl Johnsons division Thos Steele from Greene is here and about starting home I send by him one hundred and twenty five dollars to you Peter sends forty to his Pa do with yours as you think best be economicle & carful /
 
Thos Steele is about ready to start I and Peter are both well
