Dear Brother
I again take the oppertunity of writing to you to let you know that we are still knocking around, a circumstance I think you are not aware off, if I may judge by your delay in answering my letters. I dont know what is the reason but I have not received any letters from you since I left home, and this is the fifth which I have written. we are still sporting around Deckerd. the 5th Conn. Regt is also stationed here, so we havent near as much duty to do as before. Our Corp has been consolidated with the 11th to be called the 1st Corps / under command of Joe Hooker I do not know whether this change will cause our Division to be taken from the Rail Road or not. Gen Slocum was at this post on Thursday for the purpose of bidding his troops Goodbye. he goes to Vicksburg, so it is said. the Small Pox is prevailing to a great extent in this Department some few cases have appeared in our Regiment, so orders were given for all the men to be vaccinated. Troops are passing this post every day from Nashville to the front. they say they have invitations to the Ball, which is to come off shortly somewhere beyond Chattanooga. I will be just as well satisfied if Thomas forgets to send us any of his invitations

I wish you to send me any newspapers the Phila Inquirer twice a week would be just the thing. Also any Pictorials / or Books to read and pass away the time for the evenings are very lonely out here Lieut McGuillen is getting a trunk sent to him from John T. Matchetts and if there is any spare room in it I wish you would send me a pound or more of tobacco and tell George McMonagh to send some to Billy. Billy is on picket to day so he cant write

Nothing more at present

Give my love to Mother, Sisters & Brothers, to all inquiring Friends and receive the same yourself from

                                                            Your Aff Bro
