Respected Sister
It is with
much pleasure that I write to you Cogan the Orderly Sargt Received a letter from you inquiring about me and i wish to inform you that i am well My health has been quite good and i am soldiering in Miss We are waiting for a battle at Corinth which will end the war if we have a victory We hear the report of the guns of skirmishers nearby all the time for the last week and we have kept our provisions packed and have been ready to go out at any time all that time but we dont know when we will be called I believe we will have a victory here in good stile and little loss it is well planned /
You need not give your self any uneasyness about me if you dont hear from me often If i am killed or wounded you will soon learn it from the news papers and as long as you dont see it in the papers you may know i am well
It is fine wether here and we have good times. This morning between 2 and 4 Oclock there has been a great deal of fireing on the Picket lines but it dont alarm us we dont care how soon the ball opens for we have it to do and we would rather go in When the Battle is over i will write to you as soon as you answer this if i am left
