I adress you those few liens to let you know that all is well with me and that we are safe in dixies lande but are going to leave to morrow about fifty miles back in the interior we have got 81 men in my Company and I have got my comision from the Governor of Indiana as Captain I draw pay from the 10 day of October we have got a nice Regiment we was greeted hartily by the / people of Kentucky the people of Louisvill apeared overjoyed at our arival on shore we was cheered althroug the town as we marched along by gay looking women olde and younge and negroes and mulatoes the negroes squaled out hurra for de union up on the whole it was sutch a greeting as I never seen before I coulde not helpe but shed a teare ocasionly to see how glad they was to see us we had / dress parade this after noon close to town the fielde was filled with people the Major said to day that we woulde probaly get in to a fight in a weeke. five of my Boys have got the measels if you get out of money before you heare from me call on Mcfaden as he is to collect some money from Jack White as it is late I will go to Bed so good / night Malvina and little ons. you will heare from me again in a day or two I shoulde like to heare from you as I have not received a letter since I left home from any Body yours affectionately
